A funny article about another party where Ricky went on Sunday...busy weekend for our man ;D
The Impact Film Fund Party: Fact vs. Fiction
Jen Chaney attended Impact Film Fund's late-night inaugural party on Sunday at D.C.'s Fur nightclub. A breakdown of the event follows.
For some reason, a lot of rumors were spawned about the Impact Film Fund's inaugural bash. Initially, I heard the non-profit organization planned to throw a more formal inaugural ball. That turned out to be false. Back in December, everyone was saying it was a done deal that Kanye West would headline their massive soiree. This, also, did not end up happening.
Now that the event has actually transpired, I finally feel I can confidently separate the truth from the untruths about the Impact event. So here's the scoop:
Fact: Ron Howard was there. Yes, the Oscar-winning film director and Hollywood A-lister Formerly Known as Opie Taylor showed up, pausing briefly on the Impact mini-red carpet to talk to a few reporters. The man apparently gets around, as he was evidently at Maureen Dowd's party earlier that evening.
Fiction: Mr. Howard did not refer to any members of the press as "bucko" during the conversation. But (FACT!) I kind of wish he had.
Fact: Nelly, who hosted the evening's entertainment, led the crowd in a toast to Obama and offered to help the Bushes pack in order to expedite their exit from the White House. Nelly's super-thoughtful that way.
Fiction: Nelly also revealed that, despite widespread reports that the Obamas' inaugural first dance will be performed by Beyonce, he will actually serenade the first couple with an inaugural remix of "Hot in Herre."
Fact: Other bold-faced types who showed up at the Impact event included Sarah Silverman, Ludacris (who performed live), Hill Harper, Gabrielle Union (who still had the same no-nonsense publicist with her as she did at the BET Honors), Lisa Edelstein (you may know her from "House," but I still think of her as the woman from "Seinfeld" who "felt full after the risotto") and Jeffrey Wright . Tobey Maguire, who was listed as one of the stars slated to attend, did not show. At least as far as I could tell, and I kinda think people would have been talking if Spider-Man had been there. Jessica Alba got an onstage shout-out from Nelly, and it's entirely possible she was there, but I never saw her. (Our own Julia Beizer did spot her at the Declare Yourself Party.)
Fact: I briefly spoke with Rick Schroder on the red carpet and managed to refrain from calling him "The Ricker."
Fiction: I asked Schroder if he stills hangs out with "Silver Sthingys" co-star Jason Bateman and, if so, if he could tell me why Jason still hasn't friended me on Facebook.
Fact: The musical highlight of the evening (at least for me) was when performer Darryl "DMC" McDaniels -- that's one-third of soon-to-be-inducted Rock Hall of Famers Run DMC -- busted out a version of "It's Tricky" that got the whole Impact crowd bouncing.
Fiction: DMC also performed his own rendition of the Harry Chapin classic "Cat's in the Cradle" ... actually that's not fiction. He really did that. And people really sang along, too.
Fact: I spotted Raven-Symone dancing her way out the front door of Fur toward the end of the evening with two equally bubbly girlfriends by her side.
Fiction: When I saw Raven-Symone, I actually said, "Wow, that's so Raven."
Fact: I didn't say that. But I definitely thought it.
