I sat anxiously waiting for Rick to come on! It seemed to take forever. To any Rick fan the only reason to watch Thursday the Jan 30. was to see what he would do with the role of a male nurse. I had read recently that Rick didn't mind that the role of Paul Flowers wasn't another macho, serious role for him. And as he gets older he's is finding more humor in himself. Well I had waited 5 yrs to see him do a romantic comedy role. His chemistry with Kim Delaney was amazing. I had hoped that he could work with her on a film. And now on to the episode!
The Turk and Carla proposal was on first then TA DA at the bar Elliot (Sarah Chalke) meets Paul over a cozy drink. Rick was smooth and sophisticated as usual and then POW when Paul tells Elliot that the guy with the Mullet had been checking him out oh boy I couldn't stop giggling! Another 5 minutes go by but the air around the hospital was still full of Paul and Elliot! Until grabs an awkward Rick and Plants a big smacker on him! After a 2year absence Rick was back and better than ever!
Then when it couldn't get any cuter Rick enters the Hospital room Elliot and Nurse Roberts are in (gossiping about the "oh he is so cute Doctor!") holding two bedpans and clashing them like symbols! This was a perfect sitcom choice for the Ricker! May I mention that I love Rick's new longer hairstyle!
I personally feel that too much time went by without seeing Paul. The other cast is a good corky mix of serious and silly. ER fans should check this series out! The next time Paul shows up is after Elliot receives a hallway full of jokes made of her dating a Murse. Then Paul and Elliot bump into each other as Paul says, "Hey I'm not that type of gal!" Elliot cancels a date with him due to the fact that she is embarrassed to be dating a male nurse.
Now to my favorite part of the episode. Ready ladiesThe make out scene! Elliot follows Paul into the supply closet and they start to majorly kiss. Paul stops for a second and then starts right up again. As they giddily come out hand in hand her boss stops them and she makes it seem as nothing happened. Then Rick delivers some funny shtick ands puts her in her place. The line, "What I do for a living doesn't make me feel any less of a man, or the fact that I occasionally menstruate was historical!
As the charming episode ends, Elliot makes up with Paul and offers to take him out, but in Rick's usual charismatic way he says "Screw that I'll cook for you!" but don't forget to bring an apron since I only have one! Welcome back, Rick to Comedy and I'm thrilled to say it was worth the wait!
